To support our continued investment into our in-house Research and Development programme, we are looking for a proactive and pragmatic R&D Engineer with a strong background in chemistry, rheology and data analytics, focusing on finite element method (FEM) and big data.

YOUR FUNCTION

This position will give you the unique chance to innovate and develop knowledge in the field of stern tube seals and bearings. Your work will encompass simulation, test and validation of new developments and implementation of the results or findings to support our customers. As a team player your responsibilities include:

  • Pro-active in cooperating and sharing knowledge with colleagues.
  • Execute assignments / projects in close cooperation with internal stakeholders and have a pro-active role in the design process.
  • Ability to use FEM and other analysis tools/methods to analyse high tech sealing systems, propulsion systems and parts.
  • Make transparent design recommendations based on big data and/or modelling.
  • Taking ownership of your area of expertise.
  • Transforming unstructured, raw data into usable information
  • Translating insights obtained from data into concrete recommendations which supports innovative product development and improvement in written reports or presentations.
  • Collaborating with research institutes and universities, translating research results into real world applications.

REQUIREMENTS

  • You have minimum a Bachelor’s degree (a Master’s is preferred), in chemistry/material engineering/rubber technology.
  • Preferable you have 2-3 years of industrial research experience in field of lubricant rheology, chemistry and polymer/rubber technology or another relevant field.
  • Knowledge of, and experience with commercial FEM Software, preferably COMSOL as well as MATLAB.
  • You can present your results and clarify your analyses with conviction.
  • Ability to go in-depth, whilst keep on being pragmatic as well as practical.
  • You have a curious and analytical mindset with a natural drive to find out how materials / equipment works and interrelates, so you have a good understanding that help you in building(data)models/doing analysis.
  • You have the ability to remain fully functional by adapting to changing circumstances (environment, procedures, people). Absorb new information readily and to put it into practice effectively.
  • You have proven experience as a team player in a multidisciplinary setting.
  • You combine your hands-on academic profile with a practical entrepreneurial mind-set.
