To support our continued investment into our in-house Research and Development programme, we are looking for a proactive and pragmatic R&D Engineer with a strong background in chemistry, rheology and data analytics.

YOUR FUNCTION

This position will give you the unique chance to innovate and develop knowledge in the field of stern tube seals and bearings. Your work will encompass simulation, test and validation of new developments and implementation of the results or findings to support our customers. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Developing protocols for the testing and validation of stern tube seals, bearings and other equipment.
  • Performing industrial research into radial lip seals, lubrication, degradation of rubber, as well as focusing on recycling of materials.
  • Collaborating with research institutes and universities, translating research results into real world applications, and contributing to scientific publications;
  • Developing and implementing of new theories and innovative solutions for maritime stern tube seals.
  • Scouting for state-of-the-art sealing and bearings technologies by visiting conferences, universities, suppliers and reading the latest literature and following different class regulations.

REQUIREMENTS

  • You have the minimum of a Bachelor’s degree (a Master’s is preferred), in chemistry/material engineering/rubber technology.
  • You have at least 2-3 years of industrial research experience in lubricant rheology, organic chemistry and polymer/rubber technology or another relevant field.
  • You can set up, run and evaluate experiments to develop and test mechanical and chemical properties of rubber materials.
  • You are a strong communicator with the ability to work effectively with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • You have proven experience as a team player in a multidisciplinary setting.
  • You combine your hands-on academic profile with an entrepreneurial mind-set.
